Let's Get Started!

On June 8th, the first ever Zero Robotics camp in Armenia started in a small village north of Gyumri, named Torosgyugh. Not only is this camp an opportunity for young boys and girls to get involved with the ever growing field of computer technologies, but it allows for them to build relationships with kids their age that share similar interests. Positive youth development and networking are lucky side effects of this astronomic competition.

When youth arrived in Toros, they had some time to explore their camp home before our leaders led the first camp ice breaker. The grounds are beautifully located in a quiet valley, with a creek that wanders through. It's complete with a dining hall, a basketball court, paved walkways through the scenery, a fireplace, and even some interesting art!

Right before lunch, we had YES NGO Director, Hripsime Amirkhanyan, and our camp trainer and recent Trinity College graduate, Mariam Avagyan, spoke to our group about what to expect over the coming weeks.

Two weeks spent with the same group of people, learning complex technical material, under the premise of achieving a common goal is a unique opportunity, especially at a young age. With that in mind and to our best ability, we've created the room for new, lasting, and meaningful friendships to blossom. As we all have the same hope to learn and grow together as a team, Friday afternoon and early evening was spent playing games and icebreakers, and watching a movie that was filmed in Gyumri. The first day of camp made for a very successful introduction to what is to be a very productive 15 days!
