Down to Business

During the second week of camp, our youth wasted no time getting down to business in the Gyumri Technology Center. After a quick bite to eat and a debate the mathematics of walking compared to running in the rain, everyone was reading to get to work.

As you can see above, the students not only have to learn the logic and mathematics involved with writing codes for robotics. But, because NASA and MIT are American institutions, there is a basic amount of English the students must navigate through. Today's lesson covered conditional statements, loops, and functions among the other concepts that'll be required for our students to control the SPHEREs inside the International Space Station. Here are a few more pictures of the youth hard at work, with help from Narek Tutkhalyan and Mariam Avagyan.

The late afternoon was just as productive as the time at the GTC, as guest speaker Hambarzum Kaghketsyan came to Toros to speak about start-ups and innovation in the modern world. Youth had the opportunity to pitch their own business ideas, and flesh out those ideas in small groups using Edward de Bono's concept of the six thinking hats. This exercise is useful in helping demonstrate how useful it is and intentionally one must change their style of thinking, and how that can be applied to business ideas. Our youth pitched ideas for smart greenhouses, advanced virtual reality technology, and more! Of course, the presentation was followed by the obligatory group photo.

The day didn't stop there, as our youth ambitiously worked late into the night well past dinner. They proved their commitment to this camp with a great show of teamwork and resilience in the face of a challenge!
